Spring In Bloom Folio I

This Folio in the Spring In Bloom project is a series of eight digital abstractions that have evolved from my original floral photographs. I believe that the resulting forms, colors and textures evoke spring in bloom and the wonderful pulling force with which Nature or the ultimate creative force, the Spirit uses to endlessly create the myriad of life forms and things we see and experience in our universe. Stay tuned for my Reflections of the Spirit work.

Artist's Statement

"The negative is comparable to the composer's score and the print to its performance. Each performance differs in subtle ways" Ansel Adams

Today the "negative" is the digital image and the "performances" that can be made far exceed those that were available to Ansel Adams. In the pursuit of my artistic vision, I primarily start with the photographic capture of images that ultimately are performed as fine art wall sized photographs.

That being said, the artistic process that comes between image capture and final print is ever expanding as post production, a.k.a darkroom, options evolve. The constant evolution of digital software, photo paper and other printable material types, display options and media mixing results in unlimited creative performances.

I have found excitement in digital mixing, which starts with my photographic images and ends with the abstraction thereof into unique forms that in many cases provides viewers with the opportunity to engage their imaginations even more so than when viewing the underlying "real life" photograph.
